Eligibility for Courses
Any person who conforms to the desired age group and is physically fit is eligible for the course. A relaxation in age could be given in exceptional cases. In special courses the age difference between different trainees of the same group should not be very high. Course vacancy is confirmed only on payment of course fee in advance. Prospectus with application form is available on payment of Rs.250/- from the Institute. The application form can also be downloaded from our website Foreign nationals are eligible for all courses. For foreign nationals fee for adventure course is US $650 and for other courses is US $ 800. They should have valid travel documents. (Tourist Visa is sufficient).

1. Eligibility for all courses is based on meeting the age and physical fitness criteria only
2. A trainee should be able to communicate, read and understand either Hindi or English.
3. Advance Mountaineering Course. Trainee graded ?A? only in Basic Mountaineering course from HAWS, c/o 56 APO, HMI Darjeeling, NIM Uttarkashi, JIM Pahalgawn, ITBP Trg Centre Auli, DMAS Manali or SGMI Gangtok. Trainees are required to attach a copy of their basic course certificate with their application form.
4. Method of Instruction. Should posses A grade in Basic and Advance Mountaineering courses from HAWS, c/o 56 APO, HMI Darjeeling, NIM Uttarkashi, JIM Pahalgawn, ITBP Trg Centre Auli, DMAS Manali or SGMI Gangtok.
2. How to Apply
(a) Vacancies to Private candidates are allotted on ?First Come First Serve Basis?. Application to be accompanied with Medical Certificate and course fee. Proof of date of birth should accompany the application form. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

(b) HMI prospectus including Application Form is available on payment of Rs.100/-(US$5 for Foreign Nationals) (Add Rs 40/- as postal charges when the Prospectus is required to be sent by post), through a bank draft payable at SBI Darjeeling in favour of Principal HMI, Darjeeling.

(c) Application Forms are to be sent in original along with a photograph. Application and medical form can also be downloaded from our website at www.hmi-darjeeling.Com and cost of downloadable prospectus i.e Rs 250/- can be paid along with course fee.
All foreigners with valid travel documents and meeting eligibility criteria as given above are eligible. They should apply for admission in the desired courses to the Principal, HMI, Darjeeling at least three months in advance. Exclusive Special Courses can be organized for 15 or more foreigners. All foreigners are required to forward the following details well in advance for Government clearance :

Serving Armed Forces, Para Military and NCC personnel can also apply through their departments. All Government Servants may apply without any restrictions. HMI regularly allots fixed number of seats to the Army, Navy, Air Force and NCC which are subscribed through the departmental channels.
3. Payment of Course Fee
(a) Course fee should be remitted through a Bank Draft payable at State Bank of India, Darjeeling in favour of Principal, HMI Darjeeling. PART PAYMENT / CHEQUES / MONEY ORDERS / POSTAL ORDERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

ALL TRAINEES MUST REPORT AN EVENING BEFORE COMMENCEMENT OF THE COURSE. LATE ARRIVALS EVEN BY ONE DAY WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO JOIN THE COURSE. They should make their own arrangements for to & fro journey. Trainees will not be permitted to extend their stay in the HMI hostel after the termination of the course. Trainees should make arrangements accordingly
This Institute provides Mountaineering, Clothing and Technical equipment. In case trainees posess some equipment of their own, they are welcome to bring the same with them. ALL TRAINEES (BOTH MALE AND FEMALE) MUST ENSURE THAT THEY BRING THE FOLLOWING ALONG, WHILE COMING TO ATTEND A COURSE :
(a) Light Hat for Trekking ; - One
(b) Scarf Woolen; - One
(c) Underwear - As required
(d) Light Weight Rain Coat, Poncho / Umbrella; - One
(e) Woolen and Cotton socks - Two pairs each
(f) Cotton shirts and trousers ; - Two each
(g) Jungle Boots/ Trekking Boots (Avoid PVC soles - One pair
(h) Small Torch with Battery cells - One

7. Cancellation of Course and Refund of Course Fee.
When a confirmed vacancy is being cancelled by the student on his own request, the following amount will be deducted from the course fee and balance will be refunded :-
(a) Up to 02 months prior 50% deduction or transfer to subsequent course
(b) Less than 2 months, no refund will be given and no transfer to the subsequent course ;
(h) After commencement of the course - No Refund & no transfer to subsequent course
  Note : The cost of prospectus will not be refunded on cancellation of vacancy.
